Welcome to “Get Together”
People & Company is launching a new podcast about the nuts and bolts of community building.
Why are we making a podcast?
Some of you know we’ve been writing and rewriting a community building handbook. (More on that to come!)
In the process of researching our book, we’ve met some incredible organizers. People like:
Dan Madsen, the head of the Star Wars Fan Club and organizer of the very first Star Wars Celebration, which brought 20,000 fans together in Denver.
Margaret Aldrich, an early Little Free Library steward who ended up working at the Wisconsin-based organization. Today there are 75,000+ Little Free Libraries around the world.
Nobu Adilman, the co-founder of Choir!Choir!Choir!, a weekly sing-a-long in Toronto. (If you haven’t heard of them yet, watch this video now!)
Over the coming weeks we’ll share these fine folks’ personal stories and insights with you in a new podcast, which we’re calling “Get Together.”
To kick us off, we just released our first two episodes:
Gavin Pretor-Pinney, founder of The Cloud Appreciation Society. Today, The Cloud Appreciation Society has over 45,000 members around the world. These members gather for Sky Holidays, share cloud-related music, art, and poetry with one another, and have even joined forces to identify a new type of cloud: the asperitas.
Lola Omolola who started a private Facebook group called Female IN for Nigerian women to share the challenges they face with one another. The group now has more than 1.7 million members and 28 moderators.
“Get Together” has been one of the most fun things we’ve done in our last two years together. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we loved making it.
Thanks everyone.
Bailey, Kev, Kai
